Ancient Rome Ancient Rome's geography was very fascinating and compelling. There were seven major hills, and they served as protection to the Romans. When settlers first arrived in Rome, they noticed fertile land. That was the main reason that they settled there. Also, there was a water source called the Tiber River, but it wasn't nearly as great a source as the Mediterranean Sea, which was at the end of Italy's peninsula. Ancient Greece Ancient Greece had a very interesting and important geography. Greece was mostly made of islands. There were lots of mountains on the mainland. The mountains limited farmland, therfore most men became sailors, traders, or fishermen instead of farmers. These two factors isolated people, and made them feel like islanders. Also, there were many peninsulas in Greece. All of these features affected Greece's culture and lifestyle.

Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece had very different and very alike geographies. For example, both had aspects that helped the commerce and government of their country. Ancient Rome had hill that made the city easy to protect and allowed the government to spend their money on things besides an outer wall to protect themselves. Ancient Greece had mountains and islands that prevented them from becoming farmers, and forced them to be traders and sailors, which made Greece a trade hub and made the culture and commerce of Greece that much better. Both Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome were near the Mediterranean Sea, but Ancient Rome was further away, They were closer to the Tiber River. Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome had intertwining and differentiating geography.
